Flashbacks

To explain Stefan and Damon’s past The Vampire Diaries use a number of flashback scenes, dating as far back as 1490. In these scenes we see the first meeting with Katherine, leading to problem of both brothers falling for her.

The flasbacks start when Stefan and Damon are still human, but later scenes show Katherine turning them. they then go on to show their sibling rivalry develop and turn nasty. They show how events took a turn for the worst when Katherine’s vampire identity is uncovered and she is captured.

They play a large part in telling the story and without them we would be relying on what is said by Stefan and Damon about their own past.
